The History of Hermes watches
Established in Paris in 1837, Hermès forged its reputation for excellence in crafting saddles and harnesses for horses.
Hermès is a world-renowned French luxury brand. It was founded in Paris, France by Thierry Hermès in 1837. It started with manufacturing high-end horses in its early years and has a long history of more than 170 years. Hermès is an international company loyal to traditional handicrafts and constantly pursuing innovation. As of 2014, it has 17 product series including bags, silk scarves and ties, men’s and women’s clothing and life art. The head office of Hermes is located in Paris, France, with branches all over the world
Hermès Group is divided into three systems, namely Hermès Sellier (leather goods), La Montre Hermès (watches) and Hermès Parfums (perfume); it has 186 stores and 56 retail counters around the world. Image, the design and production of all products, the layout design of each specialty store, and even the display cabinets are all customized in the original French factory before being airlifted to various places. What we hope to maintain is the persistence of a century-old history.
Today, Hermès makes the watches everyone wants—but the luxury house started laying the groundwork for this moment over a century ago. The brand’s horological connection deepened through the decades, as the Paris flagship at 24 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré started selling top watch brands like Jaeger-LeCoultre and Rolex, alongside Hermès’s own timepieces equipped with Swiss-made movements, in the 1920s. It quickly became the city’s hub for Swiss watches. In 1971, the store sold Paul Newman one of his famous Rolex Daytona models, with the Hermès signature engraved on the back. In 1978, the family committed to the world of serious watchmaking by establishing a Swiss subsidiary, and it has continued to heavily invest in developing its own movements, dials, and cases.
Hermes Cape Cod
The iconic Cape Cod design was created in an act of defiance.
In 1991, when Hermès asked Henri d’Origny to design a square watch, the house’s longtime creative partner rebelled against the industry’s standard shape and instead delivered the Cape Cod: a square inside a rectangle.
The double-tour watch is like jewelry on the wrist, not only practical, but also decorative. On this watch, Hermès uses a magnolia alligator leather strap, which is very comfortable to wear.
Hermes Heure H watch
The famous Hermes ‘H’ initial was turned into a ladies’ watch in 1996 by Philippe Mouque, and to this day, a yellow gold-plated, steel or diamond-encrusted ‘H’ adorns the case of each timepiece in the classic Heure H collection
